My Solo Trip To Lake Tahoe, in the off season & without a car! ✨ Best things to do & see!
👇 Details on how I explored Tahoe without a car below!! 👇 Am I crazy?! 😂
Lake Tahoe is one of the most STUNNING destinations in North America and it had been on my bucket list for YEARS so, before it got too cold, I decided to go on a little weekend trip to explore and see the lake, at the end of October!
Off season takeaways:
🍂 Less people and crowds
🍂 Some things are closed for the season eg. DL Bliss State Park
🍂 The water is of course very cold, so it’s probably not the best time for swimming
🍂 Pack warm for the early mornings and nights
🚗 How did I get around without a car?
UBER/LYFT!
Other transport Options:
🛴 There are electric scooters like Bird and Lime Scooters around till the end of November you can use to get around
🚌 There is a local bus system in South Lake Tahoe, but it won't get you too far if you want to go to the NV side.
🚌 There are more public transport options during high season, including a shuttle that takes you from the north side, down to the south side.
Things to note about using Uber/Lyft in Tahoe:
🚗 Drivers can only pick up people from the state they are registered in!
For example, if you order an Uber on the CA side and it's dropping you off on the NV side, they won't be able to pick up another ride until the get back to the CA side, and vice versa. For this reason, it can be hard getting someone to drop you off on the other side of the border!
🚗 I suggest staying in South Lake Tahoe near the boarder, that way you can walk over to the Nevada side to order an uber to somewhere else on the Nevada side.
🚗 Certain areas like around Emerald Bay, don't have the greatest cell phone service, so you're going to want to pre-book your uber if you choose to use it in that area. It's for this reason I decided to book a tour to see this side of the lake.
🚗 Time of day matters! it will be harder to find one later in the afternoon compared to the middle of the day. Take this into consideration when planning your itinerary
Would you visit Tahoe in the off season? Or would you rather go in summer?
